About MARCELO SANTIAGO - MARIA DELA PAZ Family of Marikina, Philippines
Please sign in to see more. Little is known of the grand patriarch, MARCELO SANTIAGO (1840?), except that he was from a rich peasant class in Sta. Elena, Marikina. His wife, MARIA DELA PAZ hails from the nearby sitio of Nangka. The family`s estate, bounded by J.P. Rizal, Dancel, and Apacible streets in Sta. Elena, is still owned by the couple`s descendants.
The Santiagos are closely related to the FRANCISCO-DELA PAZ CLAN of Sto. NiƱo, Marikina. DANIEL SANTIAGO (1889-1979) was married to ROSARIO DELA PAZ (1892- 1994), while her older sister ANSELMA was married to his older first cousin VICTORINO SANTIAGO GUEVARA. Such being the case, we thought it wise to merge the two family trees. (See links)
At the turn of the century, some of the descendants of Marcelo Santiago migrated to the town of San Juan. When JANUARIA SANTIAGO was married to RICARDO ANTONIO (then PEDRO FLORENCIO) and ANA SANTIAGO to JOSE EUSTAQUIO, both
decided to settle in San Juan. Later, the eldest son of BRAULIO SANTIAGO, DANIEL SR., would follow suit and become the elected pre- and post-war Municipal Mayor of the town. BRAULIO, PRIMITIVA, ROSENDA, JOAQUIN, and MACARIA SANTIAGO all opted to stay in Marikina. Although a number of their descendants have migrated (Hawaii, Cebu, Australia, etc.), majority are still living in Marikina and San Juan.
This tree was started in the late 1970s by ROSARIO DELA PAZ. Her son KATOTO continued the research through the 80s while his brother, Daniel Jr. and myself created a more updated version in 1999. Updates are obtained yearly especially during occasions such as birthdays, weddings, or even wakes for our dearly departed! In fact, the recent major addition of the descendants of ROSENDA SANTIAGO and GREGORIO GREGORIO could not have been possible had we not met SERGIO GREGORIO during a relative`s wake back in 2000.
